This week's all around lovefest got me thinking about my love for fashion and some of my influences...
For start my Mami, she use to wear beautiful eye make up. Mixing blues, pinks, red, grey, purple and any other possible eye shadow color. And them there were the colorful maxis, the flowery tops, the large print minis, the bandolino sandals, the wedges, the cardigans, the wide leg pants and so much more. I used to raid her closet before all of my middle and high school parties, where I was always the most dressed up.

I had some of my Mom's 70's and early-to-mid 80's clothes but they got lost in the moving from Puerto Rico to the USA. Many rivers of tears followed. Mami was not as affected as I was because by this time she did not believe in fashion as an expression of one self; and that's is a big difference between us. The older I've gotten the more accessories and colors I added to my wardrobe.
Besides my Mami there are the following:
Marisa Berenson:
Having Elsa Schiaparelli as your grandmother would give any one a enormous advantage in fashion genes. Her magnificient jewelry collection, her olive skin and wavy hair made her an object of beauty.

Common grounds are the mixing of colors, prints and smiles.

Amazing combination and those accessories!

Lovely pile of necklaces. I'm just not a hat person (don't know why?)
Jimmy Hendrix
Not only his guitar mastery but his fashion flair made him my number one man. He was already dead when I first heard his music and long time dead when I started to emulate some of his style.

Fringe, bandannas, corduroy and magic fingers!
I did the fringe in many purses and the corduroys in too many colors.

Nice Chest and more necklaces!

They all look so beautiful!
Those prints and the red pants are fantastic together!
Annie Hall
My favorite all time Woody Allen film. Diane Keaton wore her own clothes. How fantastic is that. Especially in today's fashion and film industry were every little detail is calculated and styled.

For about a year and a half, I wore a ties with my yellow uniform shirts and my long brown skirts (The uniform didn't required ties for girls, just for boys). And unfortunately my uniform at my high school was yellow and brown!!!.

I used to wear both styles shirts (Diane's and Woody's) with jeans and chucks or a pair of cowboys boots during my first year at University of Puerto Rico. Some of my friends use to ask me if I lived in The South before??
From the glasses, the scarf, the peach color lipstick and the jacket this look is still modern and something I would wear.
More will follow! Have a lovely day tomorrow!

What fabulous fashion role models. All three dressed from sheer joy to be alive, that's what comes across in the images, not bound by constraits of gender or convention.
Jimi will always be special to me, I wonder what he'd have looked like now if he was still with us? Still hot, hopefully. xxx
Vix, I do believed that their individuality and love for life is what comes across in their dressing as well as yours!
Jimi would be wearing some cool mixture of Paul Smith, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander Mcqueen, vintage and some of his girlfriends clothes!!!
Hi my dear-I agree, truly inspirational icons and I love how they've influenced your style too. Such a shame about mami's clothes lost in transit, I can imagine that was very upsetting indeed.Hope you're having a lovely week xx
Sharon, thanks for your supporting words. I'm having a very busy and nice week so far!
Love your history of your fashion influences! Quite a dramatic change from the brights in Jimi's wardrobe to the neutrals in Annie's! But that was the statement at the time....Paula
Paula, yes my way of dressing has been very eclectic over the years. Annie's men wear is what I used the most and from Jimmi and Marisa has to be their mixture of colors, prints and lots of accessories.
Annie Hall!
Bella, Yeah! Annie Hall!
Of these, I would say only Annie had any influence on me. Curiously my mother, totally unconcerned about fashion, had very little effect.
Terri, yes I can see Diane Keaton (as Annie) influences on you! I guess in this case our mothers did not always knew best!
Oh, my mémé was such as style icon for me growing up. Sequins and gold and lace, feather boas, fur... she was such diva! I don't know where she wore those clothes, I only know she traveled the world and dressed up all the time. My mother was mortified, she was very classic and used to worry I would take after my mémé. Let's just say I have more in common with her glamour than my mother's sensibility so my mom's fears were not unwarranted!
Fabienne, thanks for commenting on my blog! Our mothers fears came thru, I supposed. I'm totally fashion obsessed since childhood and the older I gotten the more important my fashion style has become!
